Abstract

Humans have long incorporated external tools to aid in the achievement of their cognitive goals. With artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly evolving and expanding the opportunities to offload cognitive work, concerns regarding its effects on human cognition have become front and center. Here, we synthesize evidence from cognitive science and related fields in addition to emerging research focused on AI to generate some broad expectations about how we foresee AI influencing our cognition function/capacity.
